COLONSAY & ORONSAY PARISH CHURCH BELFRY FUND

Arts and Crafts Exhibition Catalogue 2016

If you can visit in person, please do. If not, we hope that this Online Catalogue will give you a feel of it, because we wish to share these exhibits and this wonderful building with as many people as possible. To avoid any possible doubt, please note that the Parish Church is a registered charity (SC 031271) and that all monies raised during the exhibition, whether by sales or donations, will go in their entirety to the Church Fabric Fund . All the works have been donated by the artists or makers, all printing and publicity costs have been paid for by third parties, any money that you contribute will be applied in full to the maintenance and care of this building.

On 11th April, we had only two months to go, and we still needed to raise £8,500. Many gifted people who wish to support us have most generously donated their work to our Arts & Crafts Exhibition , the first such venture ever to be undertaken locally.

The physical exhibition will run until May 14th 2016. Exhibits may be purchased on the premises or via this online catalogue; in the latter case, please contact byrne@colonsay.org.uk to be sure that the item is still available. Items purchased in this way will be forwarded as soon as possible after May 14th (carriage to be paid by consignee) and payment will be possible by PayPal, Credit Card or Bank Transfer.

The order in which items are catalogued is entirely random, and we apologise for any errors and omissions. An attempt has been made to illustrate some of the items, and additional photographs can be added on request. Please do check the details for yourself, especially if exact colour or size is important. Apologies: any photographs here are really just to identify an item and to give an impression, but they are taken by a well-meaning amateur and amongst other problems suffer from reflective surfaces (windows, glass frames, bounced flash) as well as apparent distortion because of the angle of the shot. If you are interested in an item, please get in touch and we will try to send you some more definitive images of the item in question plus any further details that you request.

N.B. : We will try to update the status of each item as time goes by; if [SOLD] appears it should be correct, but the converse may not necessarily apply, so please ask.

Thank you for your virtual visit .

The title of this work refers to the legendary hound of a MacPhee chieftain of the 16th century, which was slighted by his followers but for which he had great regard. 13. ""Ancestors", Carnan a' Bharraich, Oransay ", hand drawn, hand printed polymer intaglio print on linen Fabriano Artistico paper. Artist's Proof 2016 by Alasdair McMorrine D.A. (G.S.A.) Alasdair.mcmorrine@gmail.com Teacher of Art in U.K., Germany and former Head of Art at Cranleigh School and Strathallan School, Alasdair's lifelong connection with the island was well-founded as a young and enthusiastic graduate of the Andrew & Flora McNeill Academy of Agricultural Studies in Oransay. The scene is at Carnan a' Bharraich, where three Viking burials and the evidence of a boat-burning where uncovered in 1891, the story of which fired the imagination of the artist as a boy. With his twin brother, Alasdair hunted for treasure at the site, and this work marries the spirit of youthful imagination to the tangible features of a contemporary monk, a stone carved in Colonsay in the 10th century and still preserved locally. £350

How to contribute

Purchasers from the exhibition will be sent a request for payment; but simple charitable donations are also welcomed - details are given below, but please note that any UK taxpayer can use Gift Aid to boost their contribution by 25% (assuming 20% tax rate) if they are happy to complete a simple but necessary declaration. This is of huge significance, here is a copy of the relevant Gift Aid form. Incidentally, donors can save on postage stamps, bank charges and administrative costs if families find it convenient to make a joint contribution, but the parish is of course deeply grateful to receive contributions in whatever way they come.
